A change in direction:

Well it is a new year and things are changing all around me. Many things have happened in the last few week that have given me hope and have changed the direction Daniel and I were heading.

First of all, I did not get the job at discover. I was a little disappointed at first but I realized it was a blessing in disguise.

I quit my job at the Trump Institute and decided to home school my seven year old cousin T.J.. I am very pleased with this decision because he was really struggling in school because he has ADHD and his teacher did not know how to handle him. He is doing very well and his behavior has changed dramatically. It has also given me a creative outlet for all of my "maternal energy".

After a lot of research into grants and other things to help fund a round of in-vitro, I realized we were disqualified from most of them because Daniel had a vasectomy done about 6 years ago. Most of the grants would only give to people who had no cause for their infertility. I was very disappointed by this news, and for a while if fell into a very deep depression. I was having a hard time motivating myself to do anything.

But after some heartfelt prayer and long discussions with Daniel, we decided to change directions with our fertility plan. We have decided that we are going to do a procedure called Inter Uterine Insemination or IUI, using sperm from a donor.

This was not an easy decision for us to make because we had decided that this was going to be our last resort and when we realized that we were out of options we had to seriously consider this one. Daniel had some reservations but we were able to pray about it and receive conformation that this is the right thing for us to do at this time.

Also we have decided to change fertility doctors, because we are unhappy with the way we were treated by the other doctor. We felt that he was only trying to get our money and that he was not willing to explore some less expensive options. He also was not very tactful when discussing some of the reasons we might have trouble conceiving.

The new doctor we have chosen is out of the University of Utah. I have read many good reviews about this office and their nation stats and success rates, and am very pleased with our decision to change to their office.

Also their fees for their services are much less then the other doctor. The doctor in Sandy that we went to was going to charge $380 for one IUI and Dr. Hammued will only charge $120. The vials of sperm are going to be about $450 each, but we only need one per cycle so our total cost will only be about $635/mo.

I have chosen the California Cryobank, because they have a very good reputation and they guarantee high quality. We are going to try to match our donor as close to Daniel as we can.

Daniel and I still need to discuss when and how we will tell our child that half of their DNA came from a donor, but I think we do plan to be open with him or her. Daniel and I have a very strong opinion that one cell does not make you a father, so I am not worried about how well Daniel will bond with our baby.

Our first consultation appointment is on February 2dn at 11:00. I am very excited and I will post more information as our journey continues.
